    • How to Make Me Roll My Eyes
    • Getting my name wrong, thinking that I have to be warned against linguistic classes at the theology studies, spelling, and most politicians are some of the things making me roll my eyes.

FIRST OF ALL, people not getting my name right.

I do realize that it can be bent in two different languages (Faroese and Icelandic), so there are several legitimate versions of my name through that. But since I'm not Faroese nor Icelandic and don't speak either language, I'd appreciate people getting my name right in the tence it was delivered in: Unna. Not Unni or Unnur or any other version. Unna is the deal!

But for people to realize this to start with, they need to realize that my name is Norse, not Latin. It's with two Ns in the middle, doggonit! Which also means that it's not pronounced Oona. And no, I'm not an Italian car, nor am I a cardgame, get over it and stop calling me Uno.
The only helpful thing by being associated with Latin is that I can argue that it's a female name, thus ending on an A.

My name is Unna. U-N-N-A. What does that spell again?
      Unni? NO!
      Unnur? NO!
      Uno? NO!
      Oona? NO!
      Una? NOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Unna. Yes! There ya go! Now remember or I will ignore you when you call out "my" name.

SECOND OF ALL, people having to point out the linguistic aspect of studying theology in Denmark whenever I mention my consideration of enrolling.

Considering my track record of studying dead languages and academically studying languages, I do get where they come from - BUT... I never really prepared for my Latin classes in secondary/high school (which was why I found it so difficult in the end), and Dutch is a full time study of a language and the culture(s) attached to it - theology isn't; learning dead languages (Latin, Old Greek and Hebrew) is just a part of it. The aim of studying theology should be becoming a Reverend, and being a Reverend isn't about knowing dead languages.

      THIRD OF ALL - Spelling.

I don't expect anyone to be 100 % correct when spelling out a blogpost, an article, etc. (I even discover mistakes in my own pieces), but cut the text speak when you're not on Twitter and at least know if it's your/you're, where/were/we're, etc. - and learn and remember what makes them different from each other! It might just help you get it right!

      FOURTH OF ALL - Politicians.

I'm siding with the dripping irony and sarcasm of people like David Letterman, Jon Stewart, and Robin Williams, who are also well cabable of letting examples speak for themselves.

And it's not just right-wing politicians, but also left-wingers.

Of course, I do realize that there are decent politicians out there - they're just very rare these days, it seems.

AS FOR THE REST - *sigh* Don't make me get my soap box out.
