      These dreams of you

I close my eyes and drift away
my dreams of you cocoon and hold
me still, suspended in this place of
wonder I covet in my forlorn heart under a
blanket of stars that engulfs me in the tenderness
of your touch. If this is heaven, if only I believed,
there would be no other place you would find me, the air
I breathe is cool and fresh as what is savored on the edge
of the pier at Avila Beach at sunrise, the clouds I would see
white and swollen as those found in a sky above Santa Fe
the grass I would walk as luscious and aromatic as perennial
sugar cane fields on the north shore of Oahu
the wind drifting to the west is electric like the Santa Anna's.
I close my eyes on this enchanting night
and walk with you in this undefined place I call heaven
and talk to you of my dreams of me, you listen
leaning in, smiling and asking on cue, knowing what matters.
We stop at the edge of the sea under the clouds
whiter-than-white seeing in each other only
the other, hand on hand we walk through the tall grass
that tickles and teases our skin, invigorated we walk until there
is only the ripple of the blades and the sparks
in the wind kissing our skin drawing us near,
near, nearer to this place of rapture, the grass
is cool on my bare back, and your lips, salty like pretzels
sweet like mint that ravage on touch.
In my dreams, you are your mine
we taste the sea on our lips when we brush
feel the static-electric kiss of the wind on our skin
wrap ourselves in the succulent grass
I close my eyes and drift away
suspended in this place I call heaven.
