- What I'm Avoiding
-
I am a number one procrastinator. I am always FULL of ideas, but I never seem to get them fully planted in the ground, like seeds never watered or fed to grow to their fullest potential.
There are millions of people like me, I am sure, who watch their lives from a distance, like some old tv rerun hoping for a different outcome, but never pushing to make it a reality. I know in ten years I will be where I am right now; looking back at the LAST ten years and thinking about all the things I COULD or SHOULD have done, but always put it of until 'another day'.
I recently started a blog to keep me on track. I promised myself I would write in it daily, just for myself to keep me motivated. That was about a month ago I think. Until I saw this question, I let it go.....yet again.
So I guess the real answer to this question is simple: Me. I am avoiding me.
It seems no matter where I go, I always seem to be running into myself.
There is a direct quote from the film 'Breakfast At Tiffany's' that has always struck a chord with me. I always felt when George Peppard told this to Audrey Hepburn at the end, he was talking to me as well as her character Holly Golightly.
"You know what's wrong with you, Miss Whoever-you-are? You're chicken, you've got no guts. You're afraid to stick out your chin and say, "Okay, life's a fact, people do fall in love, people do belong to each other, because that's the only chance anybody's got for real happiness." You call yourself a free spirit, a "wild thing," and you're terrified somebody's gonna stick you in a cage. Well baby, you're already in that cage. You built it yourself. And it's not bounded in the west by Tulip, Texas, or in the east by Somali-land. It's wherever you go. Because no matter where you run, you just end up running into yourself."
I am going to start taking steps forward, beginning with this blog. They will be baby steps, but hey, you've got to start somewhere.
