Actually, you were on the right path

Keep doing everything you're doing: Drop out of high school, leave home, go west, shag everything in sight, ride fast motorcycles, do lots of interesting drugs without becoming dependent on them, learn guitar, learn to write, see the world -- but this time save money, and never touch it except to add to it. Ask your dad how to invest it once it's a big enough sum. To hell with what people think of you. Just keep everyone laughing, be kind and sincere and all will work out in your favour
