A close friend started a 'friends with benefits' relationship with a new guy. It was going well for quite a while, but eventually he started pulling away slightly and being a little less attentive. My friend was starting to fall for this guy and asked me what I thought about the whole thing. I told her that as long as things were going well, she should enjoy it but she should try to protect her heart a little better than she had in the past. She's the type that goes full out, balls to the wall, head over heels when she's in love and I was afraid she was 'cruising for a bruising'. And it turned out I was right. Even though they spent a lot of time together and had met some of each other's family members, he didn't want to be known as her 'boyfriend' and he still kept in touch with a lot of his female friends. I can smell a commitmentphobe a mile away (been there, survived that) and I knew she was in for heartbreak. Unfortunately, I was right. Peter Pan ain't ever gonna grow up and he's not worth the tears.
Having said all this, though... I'd never tell my friend, "Hah - I told you so!" She knows.
