- My Dream House
-
This is such a loaded question.... I think most little girls ponder their dream home like they plot our their weddings - in extreme detail and starting at a young age.
I feel as if I can say that living in a college house has taught me that I don't necessarily want a really big house as my 'dream home'. I want a house small enough so I never feel cut off from someone in the next room, but big enough that I don't feel like I'm always stepping on other people's toes.
I like the idea of a bungalow, or an older house with charm. Last year the house I lived in had much of its original trim, doors and hardware from when it was built... beautiful dark wood doors and thick dark trim that gave the house character, and I feel as if a newer house might lack that.
My dream house will have some sort of painted or wallpapered walls.. I'm so tired of living in places painted stark white where you can see all the dirt or scuff marks from moving furniture. Even if it's a tan color, just as long as it's NOT WHITE. ANd lots of windows. I like light during the day so I don't feel so enclosed.
I want to have to have at least a few key pieces of furniture that are not from IKEA. I love IKEA, but I want to find some more durable pieces for things used frequently. Take my coffee table. It's from IKEA, and yes, it's one of the plain cheap models, but one kick from a guest took off the dark laminate from one of the legs. I would like a couple pieces that can stand up to everyday use!
Also, if I ever get a place of my own, dream or not, I will FINALLY start printing some of my pictures and mat them for framing. I have GREAT pictures from Ireland and Wales and even Dayton.... but only my Flickr followers see them. I could save money on decor by using my own pictures instead of buying other people's prints. :)
Lastly, location. I dont want to live on a major busy road like I do now, but I don't know how far out of civilization I could live. I am a city girl at heart, but I love the fresh air outside of the 'burbs. It depends on where I end up working, I guess.
I feel as if my 'Dream Home' list is much more realistic than it used to be! I feel as if high school Rebecca would point at a picture of Versailles and say "That. That is my dream house."
