Make mine a long black

There is only thing that has really made me contemplate how it came into being and that's coffee.

I want to know how the coffee bean moved from a fruit, to being harvested. Then what happened? Did someone think "oh I know, I'll just roast this, crush it and make it into a hot drink". How long did this process take? We know how its ended up into the upteen varieties of coffee there are now but there seems to be to be so many steps to turn it into the brew we now know and I can't live without.

So.. the first taste of the bean must have been unpleasant for the next steps to have occurred, but why keep going? I know I would not have invented coffee. I would have tried to bean, thought "ew" and moved on...
