- To Have Loved and Lost
-
Plinky asked me, "Yay or nay: Better to have loved an lost than never to have loved at all?"
Yay...Tis better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all. If you have never loved, you don't have the memories of those moments that made you smile, how your heart picked up a beat or two when you saw them, or how you cried after it was over. It is a life experience that everyone should go through at least once.
It also makes us all more imaginative. Day-dreaming their demise. I'm pretty damn creative. Googling "How to hide rat poison in food." or "Car repairs in 24 hours." It makes me a more well-rounded person.
I don't imagine I will ever fall in love again. I don't think I want to. Besides, I am like old. My chances of finding love are slim. The guys around here wear camouflage and deer motifs on their jackets and sport a chewing tobacco smile. I don't care to see 16 pictures of the guy holding a deer by the antlers. I mean, seriously. With my luck, I would date someone whose velcro shoes light up when he walks. Or eats with his mouth open, which are grounds for expulsion. No, I think I would like to look into becoming the crazy neighborhood cat lady. I only have one cat, but I can still be crazy.
I wrote a poem in college right after a break-up. That was in 1976 and I still remember the poem:
Time flies
and with each morning sun
comes the thought of you and the smiles left behind.
Tears will dry
and wounds will heal
but memories linger on.
Ahhh, first love.....may you rest in poisoned peace.....
