No way and no thank you!

What would be the trade off?

I think that if the human race was the only species to have the ability to live forever I still think it wouldn't make a bit of difference. Why? Well you have to take into account of a couple of things...all of which ultimately would lead to death.

First off, I want to recognize that I understand what the prompt was asking. The question asks if "I" could live forever; but, I think it safe to assume that the human race would equally have the same ability. Even if it wasn't the case the same result would still be the same. Keep in mind that this assumption is the platform to my following thoughts.

#1. Take account that I (all) have the ABILITY. I (all) have to remember that there are murderers out there. The longer I (all) live, the more likely I (all) would eventually become a target for one reason or another. Speaking of murder, you always have the option of suicide....
#2. The same likely hood holds true to accidental deaths and other forces
that are beyond our control...Essentially it's like a raffle drawing.
#3. Even if I (all) decided to become hermits to be "safe" from the outside world...there is still the danger of your living space...like you slip and crack your head open.... not to mention eventual forces of nature will take place...like the whole universe coming to an eventual end...
#4. When the universe is gone your gone anyway...so why would I want to live to endure that? Speaking of endurance...
#5. The quality of my (all) life would suffer. Why? The aging process...even
with the evolution of medicine and science, your body will always endure
some kind of pain...besides who knows what insurance is going to be like over time and the financial roller coasters that I (all) have to face...the pain, stress, and energy it takes to live year after year with it...what more would you possibly want except for your own death?
#6. Speaking of medicine...we also have to consider the resources it takes to make that medicine alone...now add that to your day to day living needs x's the amount of people who are living plus those who are being born... that if I (all) had the ability to live forever....imagine the large amount of consumption that would take place...if you think the consumption rate is bad now at 2010...imagine the rate of which supply can no longer keep up with demand...we would eventually wipe our own-self to extinction very soon.

The only advantage that would make it worth living forever is that you have a preconceived notion that you would have a whole lot of time to accomplish what you have on your to-do list. Alas, even that is futile due to the list above.

So my final verdict...it wouldn't matter if I could live forever...death eventually comes....
