    • Two part answer:

Part 1. It was the summer my parents were getting divorced. I was just a kid, swimming at our neighborhood pool, when one of my best friend's mother, called me over to her. In front of another woman I didn't recognize, she asked me, "How are you doing about your parents' divorce?" And dripping wet, I answered very reasonably, "I'm fine. That's just how it is, you know?" And she turned to the woman I didn't know, grabbed her arm, and said, "Isn't that amazing? She's just so together." I swan dived back into the shallow end and held my breath. And I took what she said with a sense of pride, a dash of anger, and the realization that I was a little older than my true biological age revealed.

Part 2. When I left a very good, very respectable job in the arts in New York City and took a chance on being a freelancer/part-timer. Many people warned me not to do it, questioned my sanity, and wondered if I would ever get a high-profile job in the arts again. I left it many years ago and I still don't regret it.
