- My First Job As- A Teacher
My first work experience was really a nice one, because I was appointed as a maths and science teacher for junior class students.
Before my first day in the school, I have decided and prepared myself for all negative as well as positive responses, I will get from my students. Because small and innocent children, are like God, they are very true from heart. If they love anybody, they will truly and if started to hate somebody, that is also truly.
But my first day was not that much scary as I thought to be. I was made a class-teacher for class 4th.When I was about to enter the classroom, I found children were shouting and making noise, but as I entered the classroom, there was a pin drop silence among them.
Everybody were whispering among themselves, while becoming so curious about me.
I have simply given a sweet smile to them and asked, " Don't you wish your new teacher".
They all smiled and said, "Good Morning Mam".
I also replied them and taken my seat. Firstly, I have taken attendance, then I asked them to give their introduction, by standing one by one. Before that I have given my introduction too. Still I remember, what I have said to them.
I said, "Well students, I am your new class-teacher, I am here to teach you Maths and science, I know you are very curious about me and I am too curious about you people. So will you be my friend? I will tell you many interesting facts and stories about different inventions and scientists, apart from your course book. Would you like to learn them?".
They all said, "Yesssssssss maaaaaaaaam", with full of joy and I found that, then they started feeling normal and behaving naturally as they use to, because earlier they were hesitating, to interact me. Then suddenly one of them stood up and asked for my name, I said, "My name is teacher", they all started laughing, by saying, " What? Your name is Teacher? Not Possible". Then I said, " Yes, my parents wants me to become a teacher, thats why they named me, Teacher". They all again laughed, with joy as if they were enjoying the moment and you know I was also enjoying with them as I am feeling successful in winning their heart, which is quit a difficult job for me as I was not experienced.
Ultimately, I started the first chapter and I found everybody was enjoying, and taking interest in my explanation. My mother told me to use blackboard, always while explaining any thing to children, because a visual teaching is more effective then a verbal one.
Finally, the day got over and I found my heart was feeling good,as I have done a good job. After teaching there for one year, I switched to another job at another school, but this time, I am 1year experienced in teaching.
Again, I have to go through the same experience, from which, earlier I have gone through, but in more beautiful and mature way because this time I was appointed as a maths teacher for higher classes.
Students of higher classes has different mind set. They take interest, only on updated and interesting people. They don't like childish behavior with them, because they feel like grown up.
I was nervous a bit before handling them, but I kept my nervousness aside and step ahead, with my usual introduction but it slightly different way. I found they are following me. Some naughty boys used to bother me firstly, but after an incident they also started loving and following me.
The incident was, a student from my class was continuously talking an d whispering with his friend. He is the only boy, who always disobeyed me and I have left him to do so because he has got habituated of disturbing the class, everyday, since I have joined. Suddenly, Principal of the school was taking a look over the class rooms and she noticed that boy student, that he is creating lots of disturbance. She called and scolded that boy badly and was going to beat him, but I stopped her to do so. And for doing so, she started scolding me for not handling the students properly. She told that she will call his parents and inform them about his behavior in the class and class-teacher. But again I stopped her to so, by saying sorry on his behalf and asked him also to say sorry to the principal and not to behave in that way again. The principal was very angry and she left. After that without saying anything I have left the class. Next day, I found, the boy was sitting silently and listening to what I am teaching. He was trying to say something to me again and again but I ignored him and I didn't talked to him for a week. For the whole week, I noticed that he has changed alot and behaving properly with others as well as with me.
Then one day he came to me and said, " Mam, Mam...Please listen to me once..please mam".I said, "Yes tell me".He said," Mam, If any punishment you want give, please go on but please talk to me mam. I promise I will not misbehave with you again.", and he started crying.
I can't stop myself to hug him and I did so. There are so many such incidents, from which I have gone through, but this one is very touchy to me.After this incident, when the school session was over, a parents-teacher meeting was held in our school, in which the parents of that boy came to me and said," We don't no what you have done to our boy but he is totally changed now. We were very much worried about his behavior and all previous teachers had complained alot about him, but we were helpless. You have changed him really madam".
I was really glad to know this. I can't explain in words, how much good I was feeling at that time. After completing one year successfully in that school, one day, on the occasion of teachers day, I was declared as The Best Teacher for the year 2009-2010. It was really an achievement for me.
Then, one day when I told my students that today is my last day in the school and I am leaving the school because I am getting married, they all became very sad, some of them started crying, while some were wishing me for my bright future. But that boy who was changed just because of me, remained silence.
When I was about to leave, he came to me and said-" I LOVE YOU MAM and I CAN'T FORGET YOU THROUGHOUT MY LIFE", please come to school for one day, before you get married.
I was really moved with his words. I promised him, that I will definitely come and I kept my promise. As I reached there I found, they have organised a farewell party for me, with lots of preparation and gifts. This had brought a drop of tear in my eyes and felt to cry.
Happy Reading.......... : )
