The day I left Bulgaria, a 13-year-old gypsy girl gave me a package to remember her by. It was a pen, some notes, a little pad of paper, a tie, and some cologne. The cologne was very cheap and stunk. She had generously doused all the objects with the cologne as well. I still treasure that memory, taking the best she had and enhancing it with her personal care.
