I do sort of celebrate the day. I'm not Irish by genetics, but I'm partially Irish by marriage. I'm not now, nor have I ever been, Catholic. I am in fact pagan, and more specifically, Druid (well, technically that should be neo-Druid I suppose). But I look at the day more as a celebration of Irish heritage if done right. I like being able to find soda bread easily. I do hate the excuse it's become for inane drunkenness. And since I went into work late today (had to take dad for a follow-up visit to the doc--he's still not allowed to drive), I was witness to much drunkenness on the train into the city. Yes, it was an 11:22 train and the parade started at 11, but I don't think the parade is exactly why they were going. I couldn't even concentrate enough to read--they overrode my headphones by a lot. And I was listening to Zep at 11.
