The most unexpected thing that's happened to me so far this year, eh?
Let's see... Well, two Tuesdays ago I was told that my job, which hitherto I had been assured was a six-month-temporary-going-into-permanent position, was suddenly being made available to anyone that wanted it, thus making me redundant. Two weeks notice, no redundancy pay. I'd been there just over four months.
I can't blame my employer for this. People that have worked there much longer deserve a chance to be kept on, saved from the ever-lengthening dole queue. But the frightening speed at which I keep bouncing in and out of said dole queue only serves to make a shit CV look even more like toilet paper, which only serves to dig a deeper hole for my chances of fiding stable employment.
It may not be anyone's fault, but someone has to bear the brunt of this terrible situation, and that someone's always the one at the bottom of the food chain. Doesn't matter how hard you've been trying to get off the bottom. In these times, only cost-cutting matters. People's lives take a backseat when there's money to be saved.
Me? Bitter? Naaaaah. Now hand me down that tin can, I gots me some begging to do.
