• How I Stay Healthy and fit
    • Several of my siblings have had heart problems and two have died from heart related issues. This scared me. In the past few years I have taken charge of my future by becoming a health nut. I went from a couch potato who was overweight, to losing 60 pounds and bringing all cholesterol levels into the good range.

      Newark Half Marathon 2007

I have been trying to stay away from artificial food.(those ingredients that you cannot pronounce) I eat whole grains, fruit, vegetables and protein and stay away from the white stuff...(especially the bakery stuff, it is poison to me now) I make sure I eat a variety of vegetables.. "eat your colours" is the rule in our house. I also go to the gym several times a week for training sessions. There are free workouts with trainers at Fitness Force, my gym. It is wonderful to get that motivation to go for that extra push. Left on my own, I tend to say "good enough" I have aslo signed up to walk a half marathon on May 1, for that, I am walking a lot to train. At my age (62) I am fit and able to keep up with a lot of the younger people I know.

I'm impressed! I am 61 and was diagnosed as "pre-diabetic" about 8 months ago. I gave up sugar and all bread and have lowered my carbohydrate intake drastically. I loved breads and sweets, but no more. I test my blood glucose level every morning and I'm doing very well. Planning on being diabetes free till I keel over at 100. I love hiking, kayaking and just working out at the gym.
