The first time I remember experiencing death, I was 8 or 9 years old. It was a young female friend, Christine was her name. Her family and mine were all good friends. Actually, I believe she was my first real crush. All I remember, is one day my mom told us she was in the hospital. Something to do with a clot in her brain. She died a short time later. It hit us all pretty hard, I think at that age we all though death was for the elderly and the careless. Never for young innocent people that just enjoyed themselves. Every once in a while I remember that family and their tragedy. It struck them again later on the father and one of the sons drowned when their boat capsized while fishing on the lake. I truly hope the surviving members of the family are all doing alright now.
