My parents brought me up to always be honest. If I did something I knew I wasn't supposed to be doing and got caught, there was trouble. Not only did I know this, but my folks were very attentive and I knew I'd get caught. This was another part of their teaching me; what I did in the dark always came to the light.
It wasn't just my parents catching me either. My teachers and friends caught me too. There was no way around it; I learned from those experiences that not only was there trouble if I did what I knew I shouldn't be doing, but I'd be found out if I tried to sneak. Anything done in the dark would come to the light.
That helped build my conscience. To this day I don't feel comfortable doing things I shouldn't be...anything dishonest, basically.
