Stare

I tend to be somewhere in the middle, not being overly-shifty-eyed, but certainly not trying to stare down the person I am talking with. My husband is like that. He will stare at you, unblinking the entire time the two of you are talking, and then will continue to stare at you until you just want to cringe and slink away.

On the other hand, I have friends that won't make eye contact at all. That is just as disconcerting to me as being stared down is. I feel like the shifty-eyed person is not paying attention and would rather be somewhere else, or at least talking with someone else. With the starers, I am the one who would rather be somewhere else! So, I try to find a balance and strike a happy medium.
