- My first job: LA Music Center
-
My very first work experience was in an office. Around the time I turned 14 I asked my teacher to help me find a way to volunteer, more specifically volunteer at the Music Center in Los Angeles. See, this 5th grade teacher introduced me to the opera and the Music Center. I just loved it and loved going there. She also worked at the Music Center for the LA Opera so she knew who I needed to contact. She told me to write a letter to the Director of Community Services and to tell her about myself and about how much I enjoyed the Music Center and would love the opportunity to help out. I don't think very long went by after I sent out the letter that I received a response. Soon after I came in to meet with her and I started working for her right after that. It was a really neat experience and I' glad I was able to be a part of it. I learned how to work on a computer and how to work different programs and email. Back then it was Lotus, so long ago. I answered phones and talked with teachers that applied to have the opera come to their school to do a performance. That was the best part. I was able to volunteer every summer for about 4 years almost. I loved being able to get tickets to the dress rehearsal's and just being there. So many good memories while I worked there, and even before and after. Plus this job gave me all skills that I have today. I'm really glad that I decided to do this when I did. It really was great.
