I feel that sometimes we can relate to movie characters in some way or another. In fact, movie makers count on that fact to draw you into the story (if their own characters aren't compelling enough, usually). I don't think my life's story is anything like Sgt. Powell's, but I have many of the same feelings he was showing.

Sgt. Powell is a family man who feels left out and at a dead end with his job. He faces frustration when trying to do the right thing and derision when dealing with supposed superiors. He has his own difficulties and dark moments in his past. In the end, he is redeemed as being the last hero.
I just hope I have the courage and tenacity to do what is right, speak out when I need to, be a true friend and, in the end, the bravery to act.
