I was playing softball in high school, got on second base, and decided to be a little aggressive, and steal third base-- only the catcher was onto me, so I got in a run-down situation, and made the split-second decision to dive head-first into third base. Well, the third baseman was blocking the base with her giant thigh and my face-mask smashed into her tree-trunk, also smashing my nose, two days before Senior Prom. It's a good thing my bruise matched my purple dress. Swollen and bruised, I sucked it up (through my mouth, as I could not breathe), and went to the Prom, with my head held high, so as not to get a nose-bleed during photo opps.
