- When I Started Using the Internet
-
My first PC[bought in 1992] did not even have a mouse.
The closest thing to a GUI on it was what was called a DOS-shell!
In about 1995, at a public library, I performed[with some assistance from the librarian] my 1st internet search; I was able to quickly identify a public offering[OTC], that a Canadian Mining 'Conglomerate,' representing itself as in control of substantial gallium 'reserves[there were no operating mines as yet],' had published, in order to attract investors to their 'penny stock.' After digesting this information, I determined not to invest any of my hard-earned pennies.
Arriving in Las Vegas[1998], I began using an Apple laptop, & educating myself on useful interaction with the 'Web.' I established a free webpage, that allowed me to continually make contact with buyers looking for my $35 volumes of Monmouth Families[google these two words & you will find that this page still lingers on], until I moved back East, and no longer had access to the remaining stock or the incoming mail & checks[2005].
My experience with such things impressed my Windows Instructor to such a high degree[this in mid-1999], that he invited my participation in teaching a course on the internet.
