Bookshelves

I love to read but I don't think I'm a good reader. I mean, I read well, quickly, I understand deep thematic elements, etc. But I'm not a good reader. I choose my books in one of the three following methods:
1. what my friends suggest
2. the movie looks good so I read the book first
3. what's on the top sellers shelf in the airport bookstore

all of these methods are good, sure, they work. but am i ever going to read a book that's not on the best sellers? I'm not too sure.
