I use reality TV as my escape. I tend to watch the Real Housewives series and Basketball/Baseball/Mob Wives. I think they all start out as somewhat genuine, but some of their lives get turned upside down after a year or two. I'm sure the publicity they receive changes their personalities in real life. The "character" they end up being portrayed as ends up being what everyone wants to see of them in public. I think some of them have trouble remembering who they started out as and who they really are if their show ends up successful.
