I had just turned 18 earlier that year, and I was deeply excited to use my newly- attained adulthood for something more meaningful than running to the store to buy my older brother a pack of cigarettes. I had neither kept up with the debates, nor did I care much about the elections. I voted for the simple fact that I was able to. I am a person who likes the underdog, and Obama was definitely the underdog in the 2008 elections. It was for this simple reason that I voted for him in the first place. I plan on voting for him again in the 2012 elections, as long as I can find out where my voting station is (I have moved to a different state since 2008). However, I would not say that he is so much an underdog in this election, but he has proven himself to me, and for this reason he is getting my vote for a second term.

I can't recall getting excited myself about voting (I think there was a long gap between my being 18 and an election of any sort), but I can understand the feeling of reaching a major turning point. I hope you feel as good about it this time.
