"Do you believe in fate?"
I believe in chance and consequences.
Nothing you do is without consequence. A will lead to B or C or D or BC. You may not always see the consequences of your actions until much later but they will follow, good or bad.
In a way you could call that fate as some things will naturally follow an action. However, the future is uncertain, shifting about like fire. It spreads quickly, covers wast areas and will never go back, will always go forward until there is nothing left. Its branches are many, the paths uncountable and shadowed. Unclear, unknowable. Even if A leads to B now, it may not in the future. Suddenly it may lead to F. But that it will lead to something is certain. That is fated.
Consequences are fate but as we are not omnipotent, we cannot truly know our fate. We can only guess, try a hand at prediction, hope we have accounted for most of the unknows and possibilities - and the ficklenesses of chance.
And if we are good at guessing, perhaps we can create our own fate through manipulation of actions and consequences.
Let's hope Lady Chance doesn't want to play with us too much as we play with fate. That one is uncontrollable.
Like fate.
