    • My Last Library Visit
    • Library

I have visited our local library within the past two weeks. Since I moved, I had a computer crash, and began going to the library again to access the Internet. Sad to say, I have not borrowed a book from the library in some time though. I have lots to read already at home, as well as online.

If my printer is out of ink, I have copies made at the library, as well as accessing the Internet. My computer is up and running again, so I have not been to the library since a couple of weeks ago. The nearest library is not a pleasant as the one where I lived before, as it is on the same property with a local high school, and when large groups of students come in, together, it gets rather noisy, and is very distracting. The school bell also gets rather loud signaling the students that it is time to return to class, too.

I think the library is getting more popular as a place to use the computers, and since it also has free wifi, many people are sitting around using their laptops, and/or their IPad, as well.

I offered to do some volunteer work for the library, but they say they are not set up for utilizing volunteers just yet, as they apparently have some problems with getting enough "Friends of the Library," to meet the requirements of the Non-Profit program as it should be run. That was a little discouraging, as the library is almost directly across the road from where I live. They suggested I check into volunteering at another library about five miles away. When I called there, no one seemed to know much about their volunteer program, either.

Sad to say, it looks like the library is a dying institution. Many newspapers are going out of business, as are many book stores. Sad, to be sure. Really, there is nothing like reading from a real book, turning the pages and really getting into the characters in the pages of a real paper and hard cover book.

I agree with your last paragraph, I am working in the Balkins right now and have a Kindle Fire but I still order books because I just like the feel of a real book sometimes.

I have a Kindle, but I don't use it much. I purchased it to download my Bible, and other books that I carry with me, but when I could not load the books I bought it for, it basically just lays around and the battery goes dead a lot. I was told I could load PDF formatted books and magazines onto the Kindle, but so far, that has not happened.
