    • My trip from Chadderton, Oldham, Lancashire to Paignton, Devon
    • The map doesn't do the journey justice. The trip took in Shrewsbury, Hay-on-Wye, Presteigne, Chepstow, Torquay and Dartmouth.

It was a road trip I took with my mum. We visited friends we hadn't seen for a while, places we had read about in books, places that hold book festivals, places with castles, places where artists and authors lived, and my uncle and his wife.

We slept in guest houses, bed and breakfasts, old farms and hotels.

We met Dutchmen, Welshmen, and strange folk from Devon.

We ate in cafes, restaurants, sandwich bars and in the car.

We climbed hills, walked by rivers, rode on a steam train and took the bus.

I bought an ancient school primer on British HIstory that listed all the kings and queens of England, who they were related to and what type of clothes they might have worn. I still have that book. It still makes me laugh.

      I would do it again.
