      Green Forest Floor

I have never yet worked out what a long weekend is.....Weekend is Saturday and Sunday so how can it become longer?

Since we retired 12 years ago weekends mean nothing at all. When you go to work , Friday becomes the end of the week and then its two days of freedom to do whatever you want.
Since retirement one day is exactly the same as the other. Very often I need to ask " what day is it today". I have not yet got to the point of not knowing which month it is.

If I use my imagination.and depending on where I was at the time...then I would hop on a train or coach and just see where it takes me.
I would hope that I would be able to find a hotel for a night or two and find somewhere to eat.
I would relax beside a slow river, or paddle my toes in the sea. I could take a slow ramble through a forest and maybe stop at a small wayside inn for refreshment.
However I would spend my time it would be a time for relaxation, a quiet time..

I could never imagine wanting to spend one day of my long weekend at an airport waiting to fly to some obscure place surrounded by bustling busy people...no, no, no give me peace and quiet everytime

Here in "The States," a long weekend simply is generally one which is affected by a legal holiday, with an extra day off work, usually it's Monday off, unless the actual date for the legal holiday lands on Friday. Then, also again, depending on the date, a person may still get Monday and Friday off work, hence, a long weekend. I like the way you worded your piece for today's Plinky Prompt, too.
