    • Apsphalt turns to gravel
      Around the bend again.
      Gravel chatters with the dust.
      Conversation disolves into the wind.

      Tires find comfort- finally
On the moist and dewey grass.
Roots form the network just beneath
      Conveniently hidden from the path.

Ground gasps as flip flops slap the ground
      Bare flesh approaches water
      Toes break the placid liquid
State of mind begins to alter

      Cardinal colored canoe glides
      The wake behind us V's
      Nature whispers softly
      Voice mumbled in the leaves

Sun's brightest rays now losing signal
As Starry sky spells out "g'night!"
      The moon reigns: nocturnal supreme
While Sunshine enjoys her moment of silence.

      Silence. Silence.

Oh, the call of the wild...
      Cellphones? Superfluous.

My favorite place/time to be without a cellphone, is on camping trips to the middle of nowhere. I think then, one can best understand Mother Nature's "tongue", transmitted in a way that far surpasses ANY human to human mode of communication//communication invention. In fact, I found it rather difficult to write the above metaphorical poem comparing human interaction on a cell phone with Earth to human interactions.
It was a nice challenge, though, reminding me of the times I have taken to actaully listen to what the many landscapes surrounding me have to say :)
