    • The person next to me was my girlfriend, so yes, I did. I'm not confident enough to spark up a conversation with strangers, something about initiating that sort of intercourse feels arbitrary to me. There has to be something of reference to make it seems like a reasonable imperative to speak. So I set up these barricades of anxiety to prevent myself from participating in this convention. I wish I weren't this way. I'll respond, usually telephrastically, and implicitly dismissively, to those who try to initiate a conversation. I really want to communicate meaningfully, but I feel uncomfortable communicating with people I haven't quite figured out yet.
