    • the purple line is a bit deceiving. i left seattle for yellowstone and two weeks later i arrived home in seattle. every summer my dad, following his desire for movement, leaves on his motorcycle for several weeks. usually he goes towards the east and does some loops around the US alone, but a few years ago he and i set out.

we picked a destination at will and rode only the back roads. i was excited to visit yellowstone and he hadn't been in years. i remember while in the park cars would stop and slow down to see the 'wildlife' and he and i would be perched out in the open on our bike with elk 10 feet away.

roads trips are nice, but i have never had such a connection with the outside as i have while on a bike. i have also never had such a sore butt.
