Keeping the attention of a group of schoolchildren is a challenge. Mom was a master at teaching 3rd graders. She used to bring them to our home to make cinnamon rolls. This innovative teacher also implemented a May Basket Factory. It is no wonder mom won Iowa Social Studies Teacher of the year. As for myself I would present something equally engaging only my presentation would be outdoors. I would point out caterpillars at our pollinator garden and show the host plant for each. Students would be able to differentiate between Monarch Butterfly larvae and Black Swallow- tail caterpillars.
