- Reverence and Admiration for Intelligence Should Make a Comeback
-
I miss the days when people like Einstein were celebrities, and children grew up wanting to be just like him instead of some of the people who are spotlighted today. Not only is it sad to see who are considered celebrities today, but the insane level of attention they are given is mind-boggling. If intelligence was admired I guess a lot of celebrity gossipers would be out of a job, huh? People would be encouraged to maximize their potential if intelligence was in reverence. It would be nice if more people at least strived for intelligence.
However, all hope is not lost. Today if you ask people whom they would want to meet if they had a time machine, Einstein is still a popular answer. The intelligent contributors of society became legends by their own merit. Decades or even centuries from now, will people want to come back in time to meet some of today's celebrities? I hope not because I would hate to see what kind of qualities are revered by that generation for them to want to travel through time to see some of today's celebrities. At least there is a "geek is chic" movement so there's still hope, plus we did get rid of a mediocre president.
You know what else should make a comeback, genuine kindness. Remember that? I’ll have some intelligence with a side of genuine kindness to go, please.

nice job
