• This is in answer to:
  • Name an outdated or obsolete technology you wish were a part of modern life. See all answers
    • I would like a victrola, please.
    • And if I could get it for less than a G, that would be great.

I should preface this answer with a little peak into my way of thinking in general. My facials and massages aside, I would consider myself a minimalist. I often evaluate things based on my need for them. Do I really *need* internet access on my phone? Do I really *need* telephones to be cordless? Is it really *necessary* to own a dishwasher? I don't mind hand washing dishes that much. I am pretty okay with retaining all kinds of obsolete technologies, as my interest in new technologies is meh, whatever.

That being said, above all other outdated items, I would like to bring back the victrola. I think victrolas are just lovely!

I imagine myself in a living room full of antique furniture upholstered with busy fabrics while Edith Piaf or Nina Simone or some other sultry songstress is scratchily playing away. I laze under dusty sun rays on the chaise lounge sketching, or being sketched, in an old leather-bound notebook. I hop up to switch the record holding a cocktail carelessly in my hand.

Also, there is a really fluffy fat cat.

That sounds so nice! In some way, technology makes our lives so stressful. The pace of life was so much slower before, so some people had more leisure time to relax.
