Eeeeek! Lies, lies, lies. It's been said that I'm a liar. But my sister is an even bigger liar and I admit to my lies very quickly so I don't think it really counts. Plus it makes life way more interesting.
Okay, so I mostly lie about everything. I find sarcasm to be hilarious so I'm lying anytime I make a joke. Sometimes I lie to people in bars and tell them my name is Sharon and I train seals for a living and my father owns the Big Sky brewery in Missoula, Montana where I grew up drinking Moose Drool. Is that so bad? I'll never see him again!
Other times I lie about how much money I spent on face lotion because who wants to admit to dropping benjamins on frivolous things? Or if I don't fully remember a story I might lie to fill in the gaps. Some call this "embellishing" or "exaggerating." Also if somebody asks me a question whose answer I don't know, I'll most likely lie because I'd rather fabricate an answer than not provide one. People usually believe me too.
But most of all, the fast majority of my lies are lies to myself. Self-deception is a crucial vehicle that gets me through the day. I lie to myself about quitting coffee, I lie to myself about my relationships, I lie to myself when I say I won't eat that pizza and I lie to myself when I read into people's behavior ("he didn't mean that..."). Yes, my life involves a lot of fibbing and I'm quite okay with that. How 'bout you?
