    • i like being a library grunt.
    • i work in a special collections library. i handle rare books and manuscripts. by handle, i mean: i retrieve them from the stacks , process photo copy orders, and re-shelve them.

i also explain and repeat our policies and procedures at least twenty times a day, usually while i am working the reception desk. at this desk, upon arrival, i take your things and store them in a locker so that you have a difficult time taking off with some of the valuables.

it's pretty boring sometimes, the logistics of the job anyway, but i really dig it. such wonderful books!! i have touched a lot of first editions and seen a lot of rare collections.

anyway, my work day is pretty quiet. which is ok, because the rest of my life isn't.

That sounds like a pretty enjoyable day-life. I worked in preservations at a library once, restoring old books. I imagine special collections would be neater and you'd get to see the books that aren't all water-damaged and whatnot.
