When I was about five, my family had this very annoying habbit of throwing toothpicks on the ground after using them. Well, they learned not to do that after one expierience that still makes me cringe today.

It was the middle of the summer, so I was staying up later than usual, watching television. During a commercial break, I decided to go get myself a drink. This was a big mistake. I got up from my couch and I heard something that sounded like a crack. Suddenly, I had this pain in my foot. I looked at my foot, and what do you know! A toothpick is shoved halfway up the middle of my right foot! Being only five, my first instinct was to cry. I began doing so, and my older brother came rushing to me to see what the problem was. I showed him my foot.

My parents weren't home, and so he was in charge. I don't really think he knew what to do.

He told me to calm down and stop crying. I did so, and immedietly, the same pain was back. He had yanked out the toothpick as hard as possible and you better believe it hurt. It bled like crazy and he bandaged my foot to the point that I could barely feel anything.

He told me that if I didn't cry the rest of the night or tell my parents, he would allow me to watch t.v all night.

I agreed, but that didn't change my hate for toothpicks not being thrown away at all.
