Both are mediums that require much less attention than TV or Newspapers. I listen to the radio every morning while I get ready and get most of my headlines in. Then I can hop on the internet on my own time to get details or news on specific topics. If I didn't have an hour to kill on the train every day, and the RedEye didn't make it so easy for me (free, handed to me at the train station, toplined, targeted at my exact demo), I would never pick up a newspaper - way too much effort for an already frantic morning!
