This is kind of a bummer.

there's no food or snacks out
Maybe this is the 1/4 Italian in me talking, but social events = snack time in my mind. No snacks, no party.

someone asks if you have a razor blade and/or mirror
      Yikes.

      the TV comes on
There's nothing quite as party-killing as turning the music down, the lights up, and shifting focus from socializing to staring at a box.

no one is shotgunning Tecate Light
Well, this one isn't always true, but it's why I leave family parties pretty early most of the time.

last item: can it only be tecate light? or can i shotgun bud light, natural light, etc etc? Tecate Light is just a little too high quality for shotgunning.

What if staring at the box means playing Wii? Running out of food and drinks would never happen at my place. The 100% Lebanese in me would put myself on Time-Out if I ever let that happen. And Tecate Light is a must-have at any taco party or Cinco de September celebration. And it must be said with an accent and with one shrugging one's shoulders.

Erika: That's true, but if the person is shaking, sniffing and looking rapidly from left to right I usually just head for the door.
Charbel: Depends on the kind of party. In many cases Wii is appropriate (as it was on Saturday).
