- From Teacher to Techie
-
I still find it very strange to think back to my first job as an elementary school teacher. I joined Teach for America after getting my degree in Philosophy and Physics and soon found myself teaching second grade in Baton Rouge, LA.
I had built simple websites before when I was in college. As a teacher, though, I found the web to be an extremely useful tool to communicate with parents and share lessons with other teachers.
Toward the end of my two-year commitment with TFA, I bought an armful fo books and learned how to build my first web application: an event calendar for the Baton Rouge area. While the calendar didn't work out as a business, I learned enough to start developing websites full-time.
Soon after, I moved to the San Francisco Bay Area where I've worked both as a freelance developer and with Technorati.
