his name is matthew eicholtz. he was more of a rival than an arch enemy. i attended a small private school all of my elementary life, and he had been in my class from the start. we both were always in contention for the same awards and prizes, and we were pretty evenly matched in all arenas. except spelling. he always won the yearly school-wide spelling bee. until fifth grade. i kicked his ass in ten minutes, and i still remember his red little face crying in his mama's arms in the hallway. there was no chance to reclaim his title because it was our last year there. it was such a sweet victory.
