Lee: I started using the Internet in 1995, my quarterly phone bill was £400+ as it was pay as you go, no packages from ISP's. That was with Globalnet, which became the leading Quake 2 players ISP - I am still in touch with maybe 15 people from those days (some of whom I have never physically met).
I remember when a 640x480 pixel "photo" took a minute to download (at least) on a 33.6k modem and I remember taking the morning off work to shotgun my two ISDN connections to a massive 128k to download the demo of Quake 3 multiplayer.
Things have moved on somewhat....now everyone is an LPB (though not as low as the latency ISDN gave). No more phonejacks :)
I use usenet on a daily basis still.
