    • Empire Records, Open Till Midnight. This Is Joey.
    • Empire Records. Square peg, square hole.

This movie reminds me of my gap year job. Okay, we sold instruments rather than records, but like Empire we all had wildly different personalities - not stereotypically different, but a group of people that would only ever have been drawn together by a love of music.

But whilst I know working in a record store would be a sweet gig, I'm not entirely sure where I'd fit in with the scheme of characters. A lot of bases are covered in this cast. You've got AJ the art student, Lucas the criminal mastermind, Corey the genius, Gina the slut, Mark the goof, Eddie the stoner, Debra the suicidal loner, Berko the rocker and Joe the cynical manager.

Damn, that's a lot of stereotypes.

I guess I'd have to take up my usual role as the sunshine kid, bringing a little light into even the cloudiest day. I wouldn't be sweet to the point of inducing vomit - nobody likes a fake - but I'd be a problem fixer, a cheerer-upper. I'd be friends with everyone, even Deb, and if Joe got stressed I'd fix him a JD and slap that Rex Manning douchebag for him.

Man, if only I was still 19...
