Are you one of those people who claim that you’re spiritual, but religion is just not your thing?
Don’t be afraid to say yes. I’m one of those people.
However, I do know deep down that this way of thinking is just the easy way out. It’s saying “I don’t want to follow all the rules and make sacrifices. I want to do what I want when I want and as long as it doesn’t hurt anyone, who cares?”
I believe we say we’re spiritual to be open. To allow for the possibility that our grandmother’s are correct in their super-religious beliefs. To give us an out when we stand before the pearly gates and have to negotiate our way out of constant prodding of fiery pitchforks, or whatever eternal damnation holds for us.
If any of this rings true, you’ll not find a more soul-easing book than The Shack.
If The Shack is a glimpse into our spiritual reality, than even serial killers are forgiven. And I don’t know about you, but I haven’t committed near the amount of sins as a serial killer, so I’m golden (hope you are too)!
So while you bake yourself in the rays peeking through our damaged ozone, and tiny cells of sarcoma form in the hidden spots of your body, read The Shack. It’s not a good book. It’s HORRIBLE! But that’s just because the story is almost unbearable.
The writing is nice. It’s depressing, true. But it’s a story that will stick with you for a long time. And perhaps you’ll even take that story with you as a comfort when that inoperable brain tumor forms from the skin cancer you received laying on the beach all day in the sun reading. (hey, it happened to Izzie!)
