- Wardrobe by . . . I don't even know anymore
-
Up until this year, I'd say that 90% of my wardrobe had been purchased at Mervyn's, but since the company went bankrupt last October and closed all of their stores shortly after Christmas, I have seen a drastic increase in the diversity of my clothings' origins.
Now, under normal circumstances, my wardrobe should still be made up of about 70-75% of clothing from Mervyn's, but for some reason, I have found myself doing quite a bit of clothes-shopping over the last few months. I have also started on a trend of entering a store for the sole purpose of "just checking it out" only to find some completely unnecessary article of clothing that I suddenly decide I must acquire. My sister borrows a lot of my clothing and, when asked, tells her friends that she got her "new" shirt, or sweater, or dress from a store called Briana's Closet. Quite clever, yes? Anyway, point is . . . if I were to answer in the same way, I'd have to say that about a fourth of my current wardrobe was purchased at the store Allyson's Closet. You see, Ally recently spent a semester in Australia and before she left I had gone over to help her pack. Of the clothes she had decided to leave behind, I found a number of items that I would be more than willing to look after while she was abroad and Ally willingly agreed to my kind offer. Lucky for me, upon her return, she decided that I could keep those clothes that I had borrowed since she hadn't missed them while in Australia and therefore most likely did not need them at all.
I'd say another fourth of my closet is clothing that had been purchased at Mervyn's. Most of it is a year or two old, but some of it I got for Christmas this year since deals were so good with the company going under and all. The rest of my closet, however? Well, how about I just list stores that I've purchased clothing from in the last two months.
H&M
Forever 21
JCPenney
Ross
Target
Kohl's
Urban Outfitters
Wet Seal
Cali! Fashion
Charlotte Rouse
Gilly Hicks
Old Navy
Banana Republic*
So yeah, if I had been asked this question about six months ago, I would have had a straight forward answer, but thanks to the economy, I no longer have that option.
*Store that will most likely replace Mervyn's as my main place to shop but not for a few more years since I don't yet make enough money. But just wait till I do. I am going to be one stylish librarian. =)
