    • Bonjour, Je m'appelle
    • Nathalie.

I have never liked the meaning of my name, "Born on Christmas Day." It is not calming like Rowan or tragic like Phaedra. There is no drama surrounding it like the name Helen. It doesn't have substance like Ariel, Lion of God. It doesn't even seem French like Cosette.

I have thought about this several times, but in the end I just wouldn't change my name. I like that it reflects my Canadian past even though I don't understand things like the metric system, the purpose of a Governor General, or fries with gravy.

I once knew a guy who after meeting people, would give them a second name. Their true name. I was surprised to learn the name he chose for me. I expected something fierce and powerful. A sturdy no-nonsense name. Something simple. In a way he got the last part right.

      Eve.

One syllable. Easy to say. What she evokes, not so easy or simple.

I might owe you a rib.
