    • I hope I stumble across a puppy
    • I want a puppy because I want something small to love me. Grant tries to tell me that he is small and he loves me. True story, but it is not the same. Every now and then I check out the available dogs for adoption on petfinder.com but every time I show an interest in a dog and actually send an email to inquire about adoption I am shot down and the dog has already been adopted or is meeting another family that will likely end in placement. I am tired of being shot down! So I could just find one or if a stork could drop on on my doorstep, it would be much appreciated!

in his defense, Grant is cute AND furry...very puppy like with the big brown eyes and all. Not sure how he'd feel about being carried or dropped anywhere by a gianormous amphibian bird. though he does love you truly and surely will at least contemplate the physics of the enterprise before summarily refusing on gravitational grounds.
PS: I know it's not kosher, but you can buy doggies too you know...and from reputable breeders even. I wouldn't recommend Yorkies since Grant tends to step on them, but I can get you the contact info for a very lovely Portuguese Water dog breeder in Salinas. The dogs are hypoallergenic, medium sized, non-shedding, totally trainable and definitely lovable. If Lucas weren't so completely anti-non-yorkie doggy, I'd get one myself.

I sometimes tell Grant that getting a dog was the best decision of my life. I can easily divide it into the chapter before Walter and the chapter since Walter. Dogs are the best companions!

May I suggest an alternate option if the puppy doesn't work out: find a feral kitten under a truck somewhere. It's been my experience that they work out about five million times better than adopted dogs. Plus, you never have to wake up to let them out. WIN.

As a dog rescuer, it's hard turning people away, but we have to do what's best for the dog. My suggestion is to get your application in with a rescue organization or breed rescue's waiting list, that way when a dog does become available you'll get considered before outside applicant families do. That's how we work things in Beardie Rescue. We look at what applicant families we have on file first, then look beyond that if needed. Another option is to make a stop at local shelter; there are dogs there all the time that are waiting for good homes. HTH
