Why do people relentlessly ask this question? And why did I have to pick one answer? Nature, life as we know it, obviously took a very long time to develop a chicken and a chicken egg... I suppose the egg came first (as other lifeforms produce eggs), but it certainly wasn't a chicken egg.

But the answer to the question isn't the point. This question is so often asked, usually but not always jokingly, and it kills me that I can't figure out why. What a silly question.
