- Sleeping Beauty scared me silly!

Yes, Disney's 1959 animated film... one of the best animated films ever!
Background...
My father had a twisted definition of "kid's entertainment." He took me to see Jaws and Alien in movie theaters when I was all of 4 and 8 years old. Both movies scared me silly of course; for much of my childhood I was afraid of a SHARK under my bed, not the boogeyman.
Mother to the rescue... (umh...)
Sleeping Beauty is one of my mother's favorite movies so naturally she was excited in 1979 when Disney
re-released it in celebration of its 20th anniversary. She figured I would enjoy it b/c it really was a majestic achievement for Disney... more mature overall & more musically robust than the norm. Well, I did love it. And then Malificent turned into the dragon. I don't know what it was about her, but I *freaked* the f*ck out and was practically screaming in terror. Yes, I was 8 years old. I still maintain that Sleeping Beauty is one of Disney's best films... and of all the Disney villians, Malificent is the scariest. No other villian comes close!
